34 Yutong E9 Battery Electric Buses Roll Out on Karachi Route, Boosting Green Mobility
In a significant step for China-Pakistan transportation cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, Yutong has delivered 34 battery electric E9 buses to Pakistan. The vehicles have entered service on a new EV bus route linking Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower, launched by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority and the provincial Transport Department. The route offers convenient, safe, and affordable travel for communities in Gulshan-e-Maymar, Surjani Town, and surrounding areas.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad, and MNA Shahida Rehmani attended the inauguration, underscoring the government’s commitment to upgrading urban mobility.

The deployment marks the latest achievement in Yutong’s 17-year presence in Pakistan. Since entering the market in 2008, Yutong has adhered to a long-term strategy, combined localized market insight and tailored product development to become a leading bus supplier, breaking the long-standing dominance of Japanese and Korean brands. Yutong began bulk sales in 2015 and has since delivered more than 3,500 buses, capturing over 70% of the premium bus market.

Yutong has also played a key role in the development of public transport in Sindh. Its natural gas-powered buses served on Karachi’s first modern bus route—the Green Line—starting in 2017. Designed for high temperature, humidity, and intensive usage, these 12-meter buses brought reliable, high-capacity service to a city previously lacking formal public transport. Yutong has since supplied customized buses for BRT projects including the Red Line and Orange Line, supported by dedicated service teams and parts distribution centers. From pilot routes to a citywide network, Yutong buses have become essential to Sindh’s public transport modernization.
Tailoring solutions to local conditions remains central to Yutong’s strategy.

For Karachi’s operating environment, the E9 model deployed features IP6K9K-rated key EV component systems for superior resistance to dust and water. Liquid-cooled battery packs and efficient A/C ensure performance in extreme heat, while air curtains at passenger doors help maintain cabin comfort. Yutong has also established 18 service outlets across Pakistan, along with a dedicated team and the country’s first bus training center, offering free technical training for operators.

A Sindh government representative noted that the new EV bus route will not only improve daily commutes but also help cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions. As part of a broader vision for a smarter, greener Karachi, Yutong will continue to support Pakistan’s sustainable mobility goals with world-class electric bus solutions, driving the transition to a cleaner, more connected future.
